  There have been some thought provoking comments on this thread but my mind is not quite on this topic today. So I shall just read and mull it over for a bit. Maybe I will have more to contribute tomorrow. I the meantime, Thank you all.

  Canada had slightly more corruption (8.7 compared to 8.2)

  How did they ever measure that? Did they fill out some sort of questionaire themselves...lol

  Actually, I think in NZ they did...I read somthing about that recently. They got to declare how much corruption was happening in our country...LMAO! as if any govenment would fess up to corruption on their part.

  jgnat...that Jane Fonda video is excellent. Well worth a watch.

  Civil Rights, Gays And A Moment Of Optimism

  i'm not an optimist by nature.

  usually, i have to really work at feeling anything in that direction.. here of late, i've felt very down because the us seems to be drifting into fascism - while i would really like to believe that we may enter a golden age of free energy, abundance and liberty.

  it's been tough..... however, i then think about all the amazing changes that humans continue to make - even when it takes effort and sacrifice to do so.

  Try not to feel down Metatron...I know it can be hard when all around you appears to be turning to custard. But this is only a moment in history. Super powers have come and gone...and been replaced by new super powers. It is a cycle that is part of 'civilized' society as we know it.

  I do think that with every generation society improves slightly...each year we are becoming more accepting of others and their differences. All it takes is for good people to stand up and be counted. Peaceful protest is far more powerful that you would imagine.

  Another example of evolution before our very eyes!

  i read an interesting article in the awake in the scientist on-line magazine and i thought i would summarise it for the lovely people on jwn.

  this is a great example of what survival of the fittest really is and it provides evidence of evolution that can be observed in our own lifetimes.. creationists will say this is micro evolution and not macro evolution (or as an evolutionary biologist refer to it speciation).

  they will argue that that these are two different concepts, but the reality is that it is an accumulation of these small changes occurring in different populations that will eventually create a divergence resulting in a new species.. charles brown of the university of tulsa has been studying the social behaviour of cliff swallows for the past 31 years (good job armageddon didnt strike in 1975).
